"I watched a beauty contest on TV when I was about 11. I remember feeling sorry for the girls walking around in bikinis being leered at by men old enough to be their grandfathers. I've never watched one since.
What message does this sort of competition send to young girls?
Yes, they disguise what is just an excuse to look at "girls" in next to nothing, as a humanitarian exercise: "I love puppies, children and want world peace."
And yes, Miss Universe probably goes around the world doing good deeds, but what does that teach young girls? Only beautiful girl in a bikini can achieve world peace?
