Nijo Castle, Kyoto. (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE)
We were here on 1st July 2007.
The castle was originally built in 1603 as the official Kyoto residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun, Ieyasu.
Ninomaru Palace is the largest building on the castle grounds. It's famous for its "nightingale floors," which squeak when you walk across them so as to warn the residents of invaders. We were lucky as we took a self guided tour of the palace. The sight and information were immense and informative.
The surrounding areas are spectacular!
